The
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday, said it
had postponed the earlier scheduled October 17 bye-election for Borno
Central senatorial district to October 31.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Borno State, Mr Samuel Madaki, disclosed this at a news conference in Maiduguri, the state capital, saying the postponement was caused by some logistic problems.
Madaki said that the new banking policy on operation of single account by government agencies had created some hitches in the supply of logistics from INEC headquarters in Abuja.
He said the commissioner had earlier prepared grounds for smooth conduct of the polls, before it encountered the logistic problems.
"We have to postpone the election due to unforeseen circumstances," he added.
