The Independent National Electoral Commission has approved 50
groups to observe the forthcoming Kogi and Bayelsa governorship
elections.
The elections are scheduled for Saturday, November 21 and Saturday December 5, 2015 respectively.
A letter signed by the Director of Elections and Party Monitoring
Department, Mr Bala Shittu, indicated that 43 out of the approved 50
organizations are domestic, while seven are foreign.
Shittu said the approved groups were to obtain, complete and return Form
EPMC 002 for the two elections from the Elections and Party Monitoring
Department, INEC Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja, between 8.00am and
4.00pm from October 2 to 23, 2015.
The Commission emphasised that ‘late submission will not be entertained’.
Shittu said the dates for distribution of Observer kits in the two
states would be communicated in due course, adding that further
enquiries should be directed to the Director, Elections and Party
Monitoring Department.
Among the accredited groups are the British High Commission,
European Union, African Union, National Democratic Initiative, Women
Arise for Change Initiative, Noble Leadership and Mofeus Foundation.
Also listed are Gamji Members, Police Service Commission, Election
Monitors, CLEEN Foundation and Alliance for Credible Elections.
