Petr Cech has indicated that he decided to join Arsenal because they approached him with the most enticing offer in terms of playing time and competition, as per the club’s official website.
The Gunners’ Premier League rivals Manchester United had been linked with a move for the former Chelsea shot-stopper as they brace themselves for David de Gea to make his highly anticipated move to Real Madrid this summer, as per the Telegraph.
Meanwhile, Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint-Germain were also vying for the 33-year-old’s signature and they were even prepared to offer Cech a whopping £150,000 per week contract, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Czech Republic international insists his decision to remain in London was not prompted by financial reasons, though.
“Yes, there were other clubs in for me but I had said previously that I would put all the offers down next to one another and choose the best one for football reasons,” Cech said.
“Arsenal came to me with the best football reasons.
“They have shown me real commitment. It was never about financial offers, it was only ever about football and I am really glad that I can continue in the Premier League.”
Cech has written his name into Chelsea folklore during his 11-year spell with the West Londoners. He enjoyed a hugely illustrious career with the Blues, where he helped them to four Premier League league titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, the Europa League and the infamous Champions League triumph in 2012.
However, since Jose Mourinho decided to bring Thibaut Courtois back to Stamford Bridge last summer, Cech was forced to make do with a place on the substitutes’ bench.
As a result, he made just seven league appearances and in a bid to prolong his playing career at the top level he opted for the controversial switch to the Emirates.
