The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Abubakar Audu, has been buried according to Islamic rites.
He was buried in his hometown, Ogbonicha, in Ofu Local Government Area.
Audu, 68, died on Sunday, a day after voting in the governorship election, sending shock waves across the country.
Ahead of his burial on Monday, rumours that he had “woken up” led to wild jubilations in parts of the state capital, Lokoja.
This came after our correspondent observed ongoing preparations for his burial at his country home.
Associates at the burial included his running mate, Abiodun Faleke, and Senator Dino Melaye.
The state government had on Sunday declared seven days of mourning after the former governor’s death was confirmed.
