Court halts planned Ladipo market demolition

A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has ordered the authorities of Mushin Local Government Area in Lagos to suspend their plan to demolish parts of the popular auto spare parts market, Ladipo, for the purpose of re-development.
Justice Iyabo Akinkugbe, who made the order on Friday, said it would only be in the interest of justice that the LGA put its demolition plan on hold pending the determination of a suit challenging the project.
Some auto spare parts dealers, who own shops at the market, had headed for court claiming that the the planned demolition would disturb the peaceful  and quiet enjoyment of their tenancy at the market.
The marketers, through their lawyer, Richard Nwankwo, sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining the LGA and its agents from going ahead with the demolition and ejection plan, which they claimed was coming at a time when their rents had not lapsed.
On Friday, Nwankwo argued an ex parte application, urging the court to make an order for the parties to maintain status quo pending when the issues in the main suit would be determined.
Nwanko told the court that ever since the first invasion of the market by agents of the defendant at about 4.30am on June 30, 2015, the auto spare parts dealers had been living under the apprehension that the defendant would eject them.
The lawyer alleged that in spite of the intervention of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, who met with the parties on July 1 and ordered that peace should be maintained, the Executive Secretary of Mushin LGA, Mr. Jide Bello, had not relented on his threat  to eject the marketers.
Convincing the court to grant the application, Nwankwo argued that the LGA would not suffer any loss if the court stopped it from taking further steps in its demolition and ejection plan until a decision was made by the court in the main suit.
After hearing the lawyer’s argument, the judge said she was convinced that it would serve the interest of justice for  the parties to maintain status quo pending the determination of the main suit and so ordered.
The judge subsequently adjourned till August 4, 2015 to hear the main application.
The plaintiffs in the suit are Nnamdi Chukwuka, Franco Offai, Vitus Okoyeagu, Felix Okafor, Peter Benson and Richard Olisakwe.
Others are Godwin Onyeka, Emeka Ikeh, Romanus Ezimora and Darlington Ugochukwu.
In the affidavit filed in support of their application, they alleged that without a prior notice, agents of the Mushin Local Government Area had invaded the market, and with the help of “hoodlums and rented armed policemen” commenced demolition of their shops.
They claimed that the respondent, after the invasion, had continued to threaten them with ejection and demolition.
Chukwuka, who deposed to the affidavit, said the demolition and ejection threat by Bello was coming while the plaintiffs had subsisting rents.
The deponent, who accused Bello of hiding under “the guise of redeveloping the market,” said, “The respondent also deployed some equipment in the market and removed roofs of the applicants’ shops.
“The hoodlums went on a looting spree, carting away some of our expensive goods, cash and other valuables.”

Report: Liverpool's striker having medical at West Brom

Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert is having a medical at West Brom according to Sky Sports, after the Reds accepted a £3 million for the England striker from the Baggies.
Sky suggest Lambert will sign at the Hawthorns later on Friday as long as there are no problems that arise in the medical.
West Brom boss Tony Pulis had earlier in the week praised the prospect of signing Lambert, despite his struggles last season.
"It's very important that we get players who will score goals," the Welshman told the Birmingham Mail. "Rickie's got a great goal-scoring record.
"From what I can gather from people at Liverpool, his fitness levels are very, very good, and he is desperate to play football.
"He didn't play last year so it's like bringing a brand new car out of the garage if we did sign him. Just putting a bit of petrol in it and letting it run."
The right move for Lambert?
Including Lambert, Liverpool have a surplus of forwards on their books, with several players struggling to make an impression during their time at Anfield.
Lambert is one of those players that struggled, as difficult as it would be for the native Liverpudlian to admit of his local team.
The 33-year-old scored just three goals all season after arriving from Southampton, and was often failing to earn minutes on the pitch by the end of the campaign despite the club continuing to have issues finding the net.
However, he remains a viable option for any Premier League clubs who are not restricted by having a short memory, after a prolific spell at the Saints that led all the way from League One to the top flight, as well as an impressive start to his England career.
Tony Pulis will certainly be hoping that he can rediscover that form that he had at St Mary's as soon as possible.
Is Lambert a good signing for West Brom?

PHOTOS: Boko Haram's Secret Supply Routes Busted

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) through its intensified and persistent efforts in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) has intercepted over 4,000 drums and jerry cans of petroleum products and other smuggled items.

The items, suspected to be supplies meant for Boko Haram Terrorists, were confiscated from the smugglers in Pepe, Dashin-Hausa, Belel Bilachi, and Konkul villages located along the Nigeria-Cameroon Borders on Tuesday, 28 July 2015.

The NAF was able to achieve the recent feat through its air patrol activities, covering both land and water, along the Nigeria-Cameroon boarders.

The NAF has continued to identify and destroy BHT camps and resupplies by employing surveillance and combat aircraft. Intelligence gathered revealed that these efforts have greatly strained the supply efforts of the BHT.

Manchester United have ended their pursuit of Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo after being told by the Spanish giants to cough up a cool £84.5 million for the three-time Ballon d’Or winner - £4.5 million more than they originally sold him for in 2009.

How Obasanjo made Buhari intervene in Reps leadership crisis

It has emerged that former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s call to President Muhammadu Buhari played a vital role in making the President change his decision not to intervene in the leadership crisis that rocked the House of Reps which ended Tuesday with the emergence of Femi Gbajabiamila as the Leader.

Following the stalemate that emerged after the emergence of Yakubu Dogara as the Speaker of the House and the insistence by President Buhari that he will not intervene, some leaders of the party approached Obasanjo to intervene with Buhari to avert a crisis in the lower arm of the National Assembly.

According to a member of the House of Reps who was privy to the decision
a group of concerned members of the House decided that since President Buhari was adamant on his position about not intervening in the National Assembly leadership crisis, it was decided that they should approach the former President to  talk to him and make him change his mind.

“Initially, we wanted to approach members of his transition committee, especially those who have been with him for a long time, to impress on the President on the need to have a say in the leadership of the National assembly. We met a brick wall and decided that the best bet is the former President, who is respected by President Buhari and he knows the implications of not having his foot in the National Assembly leadership. And he was amenable to our suggestion,” the member told Vanguard.

It was gathered that after speaking with President Buhari, the former President told him that it is important for the country’s democracy that he should intervene to ensure party supremacy.

“We believe that it was that intervention that led to the resolution of the crisis,” the source confirmed.

Ex-CDS Badeh Cries: I headed a military that lacked equipment & motivation to fight

Immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh has confessed that when he assumed office as the CDS, he headed a armed forces that lacked the relevant equipment and motivation to fight an enemy (Boko Haram terrorists) that was invisible and embedded with the local populace.

Badeh made the confession just as he pointed out that the decision of certain countries, to deny Nigeria weapons to prosecute the war against Boko Haram, added to the challenges the military faced.

But how come Nigerian military can't produce weapons like those other countries military?
Delivering his valedictory speech at his pulling out ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, Badeh said: “Notwithstanding the modest successes we recorded in the fight against terror, I must say that the task or coordinating the military and other security agencies in the fight against the insurgents, is perhaps the most complex and challenging assignment I have had in my 38 years in service”.

Other challenges he said he faced included “the exploitation of a serious national security issue by a section of the media and the political class to gain political mileage.

“Furthermore, the activities of fifth columnists in the military and other security agencies who leaked operational plans and other sensitive military information to the terrorists, combined to make the fight against the insurgents particularly difficult”.

He added, “The activities of these unpatriotic members of the military not only blunted the effectiveness of the fight, but also led to the needless deaths of numerous officers and men who unwittingly fell into ambushes prepared by terrorists who had advanced warning of the approach of such troops”.

“Permit me to also add here, that nation’s militaries are equipped and trained in peace time, for the conflicts they expect to confront in the future. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience as a nation. Over the years, the military was neglected and under-equipped to ensure the survival of certain regimes, while other regimes, based on advice from some foreign nations deliberately reduced the size of the military and underfunded it.

“Unfortunately, our past leaders accepted such recommendations without appreciating our peculiarities as a third world military which does not have the technological advantage that could serve as force multipliers and compensate for reduced strength.

“Accordingly, when faced with the crises in the North East and other parts of the country, the military was overstretched and had to embark on emergency recruitment and training, which were not adequate to prepare troops for the kind of situation we found ourselves in.

“It is important therefore for the government to decide on the kind of military force it needs by carrying out a comprehensive review of the nation’s military force structure to determine the size, capability and equipment holding required to effectively defend the nation and provide needed security.”

Shell Is Cutting Spending; To Sack 6,500 Workers

What happened to all the billions of Dollars they've made from oil fields in Nigeria for several years?

Shell petroleum development company, SPDC, says it will axe 6,500 workers this year and begin a process of cutting spendings, to deal with an extended period of lower oil prices in the global market.

Shell wants to sack 6,500 staff and direct contract workers from a total of nearly 100,000 employees.

“We have to be resilient in a world where oil prices remain low for some time, whilst keeping an eye on recovery,” said Ben van Beurden, Shell's Chief Executive Officer.

Besides, the company announced on Thursday in London the sale of a 33 percent stake in the Showa Shell refinery in Japan to Idemitsu, for about $1.4 billion.

The Anglo-Dutch company also said it was planning more asset disposals, bringing total asset sales between 2014 and 2018 to $50 billion.

Lower oil prices have contributed to a 37 percent drop in the oil and gas group’s second-quarter profits. And the group said it would reduce 2015 capital investment for the second time this year to $30 billion by 20 percent from a year ago.

Big oil companies have cut 2015 spending by 10 to 15 percent from 2014, to cope with fall in oil prices over the past year to below $55 a barrel from over a $100.

Shell said its operating costs were expected to fall by $4 billion, or around 10 percent, in 2015 as part of a broad efficiency drive to boost its balance sheet.

Microsoft unit fires 85% of Nigerian workers

Microsoft on Thursday sacked 34 (85 per cent) of the 40 employees in the Nigerian office of its phone division.
The sacking came 24 hours after the company’s latest Windows 10 was made available in Nigeria and 189 other countries.
Although, Windows 10 is now available as a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.1 operating systems or with new personal computers and tablets, industry experts said it would leave about 15 million Nigerian payments cards prone to hacking.
Employees at the Nigerian office were silent on the matter, but a source said that the downsizing was part of the global decision of Microsoft to streamline its phone division.
The source said the sacking was in line with the massive layoff of workers “sweeping through the global offices of Microsoft’s phone division.”
The Chief Executive Officer, Microsoft, Satya Nadella, had said in a memo to all Nigerian employees in late June that the company needed to make some “tough choices” in areas that were not working.
The memo had stated that 7,800 jobs would be cut from the mobile division working on Windows Phone hardware.
The e-mail from Nadella to all employees, which was made available to our correspondent, read, “We are moving from a strategy to grow a standalone phone business to a strategy to grow and create a vibrant Windows ecosystem, including our first-party device family.
“In the near-term, we’ll run a more effective and focused phone portfolio, while retaining capability for long-term reinvention in mobility.
“Microsoft was committed to our first-party devices, including phones, but needed to focus its phone efforts in the near term.”
According to him, the company will also write off $7.6bn from the acquisition of Nokia, despite it only paying $7.2bn for the company in 2014.
“The future prospects for the phone hardware segment were below original expectations due to the new plans,” he added.
Nadella said that the news would “surely leave an unclear future for Windows Phone.”
Although he said that in the near future, the company would run a “more effective” phone portfolio, he added, “But that doesn’t exactly throw the company’s weight behind the platform.”
Nadella said that the move would not give partners reassurance that the platform was a good choice to build new hardware or apps for the future.
“Microsoft is also pushing ahead to release Lumia flagships this year and is still actively developing Windows 10 mobile,” he added.

I was once a danfo driver, says Fayose

Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has appealed to members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria against allowing themselves to be used by kidnappers to perpetrate evil.
Speaking on Thursday during the swearing-in of the new State Executive of the union in Ado Ekiti, the governor, who said he was once a ‘danfo driver’ appealed to the drivers to be orderly and not to be desperate.
He said, “Please, I want to commend you for contributing immensely to the development of the state’s economy, but don’t allow yourselves to be used by evil doers. You can see that some kidnappers were paraded recently. Information from them revealed that they have been using some of your members.
“I was once a driver like you. I used the money I got from driving to sponsor myself for HND at Ibadan Polytechnic, but I did not get desperate. All I’m saying is that being a driver you can make it in life. You will become what you want to become in life with hard work. Don’t join evil gang for you to get rich overnight, try and rise through the ladder like we did.”
He cautioned drivers against reckless driving, reminding them of the ‘don’t drink and drive’ rule.
“Though I am part of you, if you breach the law, I won’t save or spare you. You will be arrested and prosecuted by the security agents,” he said.
The governor, who recalled that he united the two unions — RTEAN and National Union of Road and Transport Workers — during his first term, said the occasion was a sign that good things were coming to Ekiti.
“We should emulate this kind of occasion. This is very good. We will always identify with this kind of achievements. You are doing a good job for this country. I don’t want to be the enemies of drivers, I want to be your friend.”
He also thanked the unions for standing by him during the failed impeachment plot against him by the former 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers.
Fayose, who had earlier spoken at the 2015 Annual Conference of the Institute of Strategic Management, appealed to leaders to focus attention on how to banish poverty that is killing the potential of many Nigerians.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Strategies for Poverty Alleviation’, Fayose said his desperate bid to banish poverty in the land had propelled him to pioneer the stomach infrastructure concept that had become a brand in the country.
“In tackling poverty, the first thing to do is to empower the people. But before empowerment, you must make them look healthy through provision of food. Let them get access to you as a leader, this will give them a sense of belonging and relief.
“Some of the projects being executed by MDGs centred on poverty alleviation. Poverty has become a serious issue in Nigeria. That was why my government made the payment of salaries the first thing, because this will keep the people and the economy going.
“I receive close to 200 to 300 calls and messages daily on stomach infrastructure thing. Though 90 per cent of it is about money, we should not shy away from the fact that the concept has become a way of life in Nigeria as a good weapon to tackle poverty among the common people.”

I wanted to impeach Ekweremadu —Ndume

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu
The Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, on Thursday, caused a stir in the upper chamber when he revealed how he collected signatures of other senators to impeach the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, in the 7th Senate.
Ndume stated this while raising a point of order to draw the attention of the Senate to an “offensive report” published in The Nation newspaper of Thursday.
The newspaper’s report had alleged that 22 Northern senators who signed the vote of confidence passed in Senator Bukola Saraki leadership of the Senate, were working against the interest of President Muhammadu Buhari, in the red chamber.
Ndume said he contested the deputy senate president position with Ekweremadu on June 9, 2015 with the intention to win but had to accept his fate when the latter defeated him.
He said, “I personally still want to be senate president. I also believe that any of us will not mind to be the senate president. As for the deputy senate president, I contested against the deputy senate president. I did not contest with him to lose that election.
“I contested with him in order to win that election but it is God that gives power to whoever he wants. What ever happened on the 9th of June, my friend Ekweremadu became the deputy senate president.
“Let me say for the record and for those that were not in the 7th Senate, it is not something of pride, but I stand here to say, he is here, that I am the only person that attempted to impeach him.
“ I collected signatures in order to impeach him because of certain things which I explained and we discussed.
“Why I am taking us through all these is because the nation is watching us and this drama that is going on cannot continue because that is not why we are here and this leadership thing whether we like it or not, whether we change it or we maintain this one, only one person will be the senate president.
“I want to say something about an issue that has been lingering in this Senate and it is about to distort or take us away from the main reason why we are here.
“I said it before and I am still maintaining this position. Each and every one of us here that is elected as a senator is qualified to be the senate president by all standards but it only that out of the 109 of us, one has to be the senate president while another person has to be the deputy senate president. It so happened, that Senator Bukola Saraki is now our senate president.
“Senate leadership has gone beyond an individual. You cannot become the leader of the Senate when the senators are not ready to accept your leadership. If two-thirds of the senators say today that I am not the leader I am out.”

Ooni: Aregbesola, Ife chiefs meet in Oshogbo

The Royal Traditional Council of Ife, on Thursday, met Governor Rauf Aregbesola briefly behind closed-doors at the Government House.
The delegates first told the governor in the presence of some journalists  that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, was alive contrary to the news in the media.
The  details of the brief  meeting held behind closed-doors were not made available to journalists. The chiefs,  led by the Lowa of Ife, Oba Joseph Ijaodola, had earlier said it was regrettable   that the Ooni was always a target of negative publicity in the media.
Some prominent indigenes of Ife, who are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, were present at the meeting. They are: Senator Babajide Omoworare; immediate past Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Sikiru Ayedun; a former member of Osun State  House of Assembly, Mr. Adetilewa Sijuade and a former Special Adviser to the Governor  on Youth and Sports, Mr. Biyi Odunlade.
The Lowa of Ife said, “We were all shocked when we heard the rumour of baba’s death. If at all such an incident had occurred, the Traditional Council  would be the first to know and equally break the news to the entire public.
“Sixteen of us are his chiefs and when he was travelling out, he didn’t look like he was going to die and should that have happened to him, we would have been informed even before anyone would hear about it. We pray that Ooni Sijuade will live long in good health.”
Aregbesola thanked the chiefs for holding forth the monarch’s domain  while he was  away and he prayed God to give the monarch long life in good health.
Meanwhile, the palace  of the Ooni looked deserted on Thursday when our corespondent visited the place.
There was no crowd nor the hordes of okada riders who had gathered at the entrance of the palace on Wednesday when newspapers broke the news of the Ooni’s death.
While  visitors to the palace including journalists were not allowed to go beyond the first court which houses  the press centre, the Emese’s court and the police station, some chiefs who visited the palace were seen going inside the inner part of the palace.
A palace source, who spoke to our correspondent, said the rebuttal of the news of the Ooni’s death by the RTC was in order.
The source said although the monarch had passed away, the procedure for breaking such big news must be followed.
He said, ” The Traditional Council did a good job. They tried as much as they can to ensure that things are done the way they should be done.
“Although they may not be able to do all those things the same way they were done about 100 years ago, there must be a semblance of it. He was not just an ordinary person, so the announcement of his death must follow the due process.
” The news quickly filtered out because it happened outside the country. Nobody would have known except some very few persons if he had died right inside the palace.
” You know that the same  thing happened to one of the foremost Obas in the country ( name withheld) , it is almost two months now and they have not announced it officially.  But the Ooni passed away  outside the country, so it is difficult to manage the situation, but the chiefs did what is expected of them.”
Asked when the corpse of the departed monarch is expected to be brought back in the country, the source declined comment.

Court orders police to produce Lekki robbery suspect

A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Thursday ordered the police to produce in court a 20-year-old man, Ebi Tosan, nabbed by the force in connection with the March 12, 2015 robbery of the Lekki branch of First City Monument Bank.
The deadly gang, which Tosan allegedly belonged to, reportedly killed about five persons, including three policemen and a fish hawker, before carting away about N15m belonging to the bank.
The robbers, who reportedly stormed the bank in broad daylight, wearing military uniform, were said to have engaged the police in a gunfight on Admiralty Way, Lekki, Lagos State, for about 30 minutes before finally escaping through the lagoon in a speed boat.
The police, however, tracked down and apprehended four of the suspected members of the robbery gang on April 5, 2015.
Those arrested and paraded by the police were, Tosan, Duke Odogbo, 38; Lawrence Kingsley, 31; and Ekelemo Kuete, 30.
But Tosan had headed for the court seeking a declaration that his arrest, torture and continued detention by the State Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja without admitting him to bail was a violation of his human rights, preserved by sections 34(1)(a), 35(1)(4) and Section 41 of the 1999 constitution.
The suspect who urged the court to order the police to immediately release him on bail, is also claiming N100m damages against the police for what he termed unlawful detention and torture.
The suspect’s lawyer, Chief S.W. Baidi, argued that the continued detention of his client without bail was an “infringement and curtailment of the applicant’s constitutional right to personal liberty, freedom of movement and presumption of innocence.”
At the resumed hearing of the suspect’s fundamental rights enforcement action on Thursday, Justice Iyabo Akinkugbe reaffirmed an earlier order made by Justice Lateefa Okunnu on July 9 directing the police to produce the suspect in court.
Akingkugbe, who was a vacation judge, also granted an application by the suspect seeking urgent hearing of the case during the court’s long vacation.
The judge adjourned till August 10, 2015 for the police to bring the suspect to court.
Joined as the respondents in the suit are the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, the Officer-in-Charge of SARS, Ikeja,  Abba Kyari, and the Attorney General of Lagos State.
In a 26-paragraph affidavit filed in support of the originating summons, one Tamuno Amos, who addressed himself as the suspect’s uncle, said he believed that his nephew’s continued detention by the police was a deliberate act by the police to “extract a confessional statement from him on the alleged offence.”
Amos, who said he had not been allowed to see his nephew since his arrest, claimed that “the applicant is suffering on a daily basis without access to food, bath and other conveniences and he may die in custody unless granted bail.”

Ambode welcomes Walmart, seeks firm’s support on job creation

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has assured a delegation of Walmart Incorporated that the state is ready to give necessary support to assist the firm in establishing its presence in the state.
The delegation of the firm, a leading global brand in retail supermarket, was led by the President and Chief Executive Officer of Walmart Europe, Middle East, Africa and Canada, Shelley Broade, on Thursday.
Ambode said the presence of the Walmart brand in Lagos would go a long way not only to create jobs for the teeming youths, but also boost the economy of the state.
He said the success story of the brand, which currently operates in 28 countries with over 2.2 million employees, would be beneficial to the growth of the state as well as his vision to make life comfortable for residents.
The governor said, “That summaries the reason why Walmart has to berth in Lagos. We are committed to expanding the business scope for Walmart and like I said, I am interested in having your brand signature in Lagos.
“You have been pro-people and that’s why we find a congress between the objectives of Walmart and Lagos State Government.
“As we speak, we have a population of over 21 million people and four million of that population are in the middle class. We have a bulging youth that is craving for employment and whatever it is that we do, we want to make sure that we attract as much investment to Lagos that can help us to take our youths off the streets and give them employment.
“What I stand here to offer is the commitment to make the investment climate favourable to investors. We want to ensure that whatever it is that would make the business bigger for you, we are committed to it.”
“I want to assure you that if it is in the area of land permits or authorisation for issues that relate to setting up business, we are committed to making sure that we fast-track and do it as transparent as possible to allow more businesses to come to Lagos.”
Broader acknowledged the investment opportunities that abound in the state, adding that the Group was ready to expand its business horizon and create jobs for the people.
She said, “We are incredibly excited and proud to be in this exciting state of Lagos. Just looking at the burgeoning economy and at the growth in this market is very exciting and now Walmart operates around the world in 28 countries and our mission is to lower the cost of living, to help people save and live better.
“The passion that you feel right when you land at the airport, there’s an excitement here. You can feel that this is a state within a country really on the move forward. There is a smile on the people’s faces; there is eagerness and there’s a mission that they are on to better themselves and their families. It’s very exciting.

BREAKING NEWS – Arsenal Make OFFICIAL £40.5m Bid For Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema playing for Real Madrid
After sending Arsenal fans into a frenzy a couple of days ago with a cryptic Instagram post which suggests he could well be on his way to club, Benzema’s move to the Emirates seems to be in the offing as the north Londoners are reportedly preparing an improve offer of £40.5million for the forward.
Despite being inconsistent for some part of last campaign, Benzema is still famed to be one of Europe’s most potent finisher which Arsenal are well aware of.
Arsene Wenger is searching Europe for a deadly goal poacher to spearhead the attack in his team’s bid for glory in the upcoming campaign, and although Julian Draxler and Fernando Llorente have been touted as potential candidates, Benzema remains top of Wenger’s wish list.
Spanish source, Fichajes claimed yesterday that Arsenal were willing to submit a mammoth offer of $63million for Benzema’s signature after Real Madrid rejected their initial advances.
The media is now seething with reports that Los Blancos are listening to offers for the 27-year old forward and Arsenal have prepared a new £40.5million bid which they accept will tempt the Spanish giants into parting ways with their coveted striker.
Despite the dismalness which characterized his performances last term, the former Lyon ace managed to chip in with 22 goals and 15 assists in 46 games for the 10-time Champions League winners.
Arsenal will now be hoping their long-term target joins them this summer, and with Wenger also keen for his compatriot to play for him at the London side, the transfer could be a possibility.
Meanwhile, Wojciech Szczesny has joined AS Roma on a season-long loan from Arsenal, with an option to a permanent deal at the end of the loan. The Poland international glovesman decided to leave after Petr Cech arrived from Chelsea to be Arsenal’s No.1 next term.

Arsenal To ANNOUNCE Benzema Signing In Days, Madrid SANCTIONS Transfer

Arsenal’s pursuit of a top-striker appears set to take a positive twist, after recent reports indicate that Real Madrid forward and Arsene Wenger’s first-choice striker target, Karim Benzema has subtly been given the green light to accede to an offer of a transfer away from the club.
While the Madrid club currently undergo pre-season training, coach Rafael Benitez looks to have rekindled the flame of Jese Rodriguez, and has allegedly publicly expressed his intentions to offer the 22 year-old player a regular striker role in the 2015/2016 season. Having suffered a knee injury earlier this year, the player saw a quick recuperation met with a rich vein of form- which he has carried into the Madrid club’s pre-season training tour, scoring one beautiful goal in the 3-nil win over Inter Milan in a friendly recently.
He had initially been linked with a move to Chelsea, but the arrival of Boss Rafa Benitez seems to have settled doubts about his future. “I’ve never wanted to leave. I’m very grateful to the Coach for counting on me”, he said.
As it stands, with Benitez set to offer him a regular striker role, it appears that Karim Benzema is now indeed close to the Madrid exit door- where we reportedly have Arsene Wenger standing alert, in order to take him to the Emirates stadium on a permanent basis. His eventual departure may also afford Madrid the chance to sign long-time target, Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund.

chelse to seal major signing today

Chelsea will complete a deal for Mohamed Salah today, as the Egyptian winger is set to join Roma on a loan deal before making a permanent switch next summer.
Salah, who’s agent confirmed his arrival in Rome for Wednesday, is said to have agreed the deal with the Italian side at the weekend but Chelsea were negotiating the finer details of the agreement; with it now stated to be a £1.4m loan fee, ahead of a £16m transfer next summer.

Jose Mourinho has maintained that Salah is not a part of his plans at Stamford Bridge and used the Egyptian ace as makeweight in a deal to bring Juan Cuadrado to West London in January, with Salah spending time on-loan at Fiorentina.

He impressed in Florence, scoring nine goals, but has been involved in a bitter dispute this summer as he rejected a permanent move to Fiorentina- allegedly backtracking on a previous agreement, with the Italian side are planning to take to court.

ESPN state that the legal dispute could delay a deal but it’s still tipped to go ahead, with reports in Italian media stating he could feature in a friendly for his new side against Sevilla.
